Science is evolving in an increasingly dynamic environment, where technological advances, artificial intelligence, and geopolitical developments are fundamentally reshaping research practices, international collaboration, and the formulation of science policy. In this context, science diplomacy has emerged as a vital instrument for strengthening national research and innovation capacities, fostering strategic international partnerships, and contributing to the development of shared European responses to global challenges.

As Lithuania prepares for its Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2027, it has a unique opportunity to play a more active role in shaping the European research agenda by highlighting its national priorities and scientific strengths. The event will examine how the transformation of science, research security, and international partnerships can serve as key pillars of a stronger Lithuanian science diplomacy. It will also explore how scientific knowledge can be generated, evaluated, and integrated more effectively into evidence-informed policymaking at both the national and European levels.

The aim of the event series is to bring together Lithuania’s research, policy, and innovation communities to discuss the transformation of science in the context of technological and geopolitical change, strengthen the role of science diplomacy, and identify how Lithuania can contribute more actively to shaping European science policy as it prepares for its Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2027.

The International Science Week in Lithuania (re)SEARCH 2026, taking place on 19–23 October, will be the second event series of its scale in Lithuania.
